A passenger jet from Kansas crashed into Washington’s Potomac River after colliding mid-air with a military helicopter near Reagan National Airport, prompting a major emergency response and grounding all flights. The US Federal Aviation Administration reported that a PSA Airlines regional jet collided midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter. PSA was operating Flight 5342 for American Airlines, which had departed from Wichita, Kansas. There were 60 passengers scheduled to be on that jet.

US President Donald Trump weighed in on the issue, calling the tragedy something that could have been averted. The incident has sparked a major response from authorities and has left many in mourning.
