Discovering Malaysia’s Hidden Gems

Malaysia has been intensifying efforts to revamp the tourism industry in recent months. According to recent data, Malaysia’s domestic tourism sector has shown significant recovery, with an estimated 78 million tourist arrivals recorded in the past year.

Notably, the tourist arrivals have generated an estimated RM50.4 billion in revenue for the country. The Malaysian government attributed the growth in domestic tourist arrivals to effective marketing and promotional campaigns launched during the year.

A majority of tourist arrivals came from Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, recording 13.6 million, 12.6 million and 10.2 million in tourist arrivals, respectively. The top tourism generating states for receipts were Sabah, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, generating RM 1.5 billion, RM 8 billion, RM 8.2 billion and RM 5.3 billion respectively.

Local tourist destinations have also reported growth in visitor numbers, with a rise in domestic travel for leisure and recreation. Meanwhile, several states are actively developing and upgrading their tourist attractions and amenities to boost the domestic tourism experience.

The success of domestic tourism in Malaysia highlights the importance of effective marketing and promotional campaigns to stimulate growth in the tourism sector. It also underscores the potential for further growth if marketing and promotional efforts are sustained and supported by upgrades to attractions and amenities.

The sector remains cautiously optimistic and looks forward to further growth and support for local tourism going forward.
