LADA at the Global Maritime and Aerospace Awards 2023
Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) received the prestigious Global Maritime and Aerospace Awards 2023 under the Category of Government Services Delivery. Tuan Wan Kamarul Faisal bin Wan Kamardin, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Langkawi Development Authority received the prestigious award on behalf of LADA.
The inaugural Awards organised by the esteemed International Business Review was held on 26 May 2023 – in conjunction with Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Awards Exhibition 2023 (LIMA 2023), and was held at Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC), Langkawi. LIMA is the prime event that celebrates excellence in both the maritime and aerospace sectors, and is in its 16th edition held biennially in Langkawi since its inception in 1991.
LADA shared the stage alongside other world-acclaimed recipients such as Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (former PM) who was conferred the Lifetime Award under the IBR Global Maritime and Aerospace Awards 2023.
This recognition signifies an important milestone in LADA’s relentless pursuit of excellence in raising Langkawi Island’s profile as a world-renowned tourism destination. LADA has been promoting the natural beauty of Langkawi on a global scale so that the island has come to be known as the destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE). This was one of the key reasons behind LADA’s win at the Awards.

Routes Asia, which is held in a different location each year, brings together airlines, airports and tourism authorities to drive Asia Pacific’s air service development and continue to fuel the region’s aviation recovery. Over 3,000 meetings are expected to take place at the event next year which will be pivotal in shaping future air connectivity across the region.
Blessed with stunning beauty and pristine natural landscapes and formations, Langkawi, Southeast Asia’s first UNESCO Geopark, is also bidding for the UNESCO Global Geoparks Conference.
Today, Langkawi has made its mark as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Malaysia, attracting millions of visitors every year with 2.58M visitors arriving in Langkawi in 2022 alone. In 2023, LADA expects 3.2 million tourist to visit the island, bringing with them RM5.78 billion in receipts, which will contribute massively to the island’s revenue.
LADA continues to play a key role in the island’s development and is committed to promoting sustainable tourism practices that benefit the local community while preserving the island’s natural beauty.
